Frequently asked questions

I‘ve tried to include as many of the most common questions I can think of.

Please let me know if I've left anything out.

Why do I need a trainer?

A good trainer will help you set realistic goals and achieve them.

A good trainer will help you stay motivated by measuring your progress every few weeks.

A good trainer will ensure that you are doing every exercise with PERFECT FORM so that you maximize your gains and stay injury free.

A good trainer will make each session fun and interesting while gently pushing you further than you would probably push yourself.

A good trainer will adapt the session if you are tired or stressed.

What will we do in the first session?

In the first session you will fill out a comprehensive health questionnaire.

We will discuss your goals, look at your diet and if necessary I will ask you to have some blood tests or a general checkup.

We'll do a comprehensive assessment of your current fitness including muscular strength- endurance, aerobic fitness, flexibility and body fat %.

We will then do a session which is usually a combination of resistance work and aerobic training.

At the end of the session I will give you some dietary recommendations, and advice on what exercise to do before next session (including target heart rate zones). We'll go over your goals, set a time frame and you'll go home tired but happy!

How long does each session go for?

A normal session is usually 70 minutes which includes discussing dietary and training suggestions for the upcoming week.

Initial session is usually approximately 90 min.

Where do you work?

I work in the Concord and Balmain areas in Sydney's inner west.

How much do you charge?

Current prices are $120 per individual session (70 min) $55 per person for small groups (up to 4 clients) or $1150 for a 10 session ‘starter pack'. (all prices are in Australian dollars.)

What is a ‘typical ‘ session?

A ‘typical' session will involve a combination of resistance training, fat burning aerobic work and may include some short higher intensity efforts.

The format will vary and can include circuit training, hills, stairs, free weights, exercise bands etc.

What if I miss a session?

If you miss a session due to illness or unforeseen circumstances that's o.k.

If you miss a session for any other reason then I expect 24hrs notice or you will be billed for the session.

If you miss 3 consecutive sessions I'll help you find a new trainer.

I had a trainer before and didn't get the results I wanted.

There are plenty of dodgy trainers around just as there are dodgy accountants and mechanics!

Equally there are good trainers who simply don't ‘click' with you.

The best advice I can give is to try a couple of sessions before making a long term financial commitment.

Are you going to yell at me like ‘boot camp'?

No it's not my style to yell at clients like “boot camp” – although this approach does work for some!

I will always push you out of your comfort zone but I'll also understand and respect your limits.

My goal is to make every session fun and motivating and to create a positive association with exercise so you'll want to train on your own as well.

Can I start straight away?

If I can't take you on immediately I'll try to get you started on a program and put you on a waiting list until a spot becomes available.

Alternatively I can recommend 2 local trainers who I know and trust.

Can I train with a friend?

Sure, training with a friend is a great way to stay motivated but you both need to be at a similar level of fitness.

What should I bring to each session?

A towel, drink and a good attitude!

Do I need to do anything before we start training?

I recommend that ALL clients have a full checkup before starting an exercise program. This should include blood pressure, cholesterol/lipid count, fasting blood sugar and an exercise E.C.G if over 35 years.
