                                     Nutrition

I ask all new clients to fill out a food diary detailing EVERYTHING that they eat.

As part of each session we discuss diet, mood and energy levels and I'll give advice and tips as needed.

Rather than being an exercise in guilt, the diary is simply a tool to enable us to look at the link between what you eat, your body shape and how you feel.

We can then make well informed changes as needed.

One recommendation that I do make with most new clients is to reduce the amount of carbohydrate at each meal, particularly in the evenings.

This has the effect of slowing or limiting the insulin response which in turn minimizes the potential for calories to be stored as fat.

Please note that I do NOT advocate an 'Atkins type' very low carb diet which puts the body into a state of ketosis!

Carbohydrate is an essential part of our diets especially when exercising.

Most of our ‘western' diets are too high in simple carbohydrates – sugar etc and as a result we are seeing an unprecedented increase in obesity and type 2 diabetes.

By reducing our simple carbohydrate intake and eating some clean protein with each meal we can maximise our body's fat burning potential and improve our insulin sensitivity.

Again please be aware that nutrition advice is given based on a client's INDIVIDUAL needs and profile and the above scenario is for general information purposes only.

Anybody undertaking a change in diet should consult their doctor or a qualified nutritionist.
